Flash Fiction Challenge (14.05.16)

It’s one of those weeks. Thinking of anything to write for the blog has been nearly impossible, and I can’t even say why. Too much noise around me, too many people, too much excitement; something is causing it to be extremely difficult to focus. That being said, I’m going to give you something fun this week. It’s not a short one, so be prepared to spend a little time on it. No longer than usual, just not super short.

That said, here’s your challenge. I want you to write about your favourite animal. Sounds easy enough, right? There’s a catch. I want you to write about that animal as if it is a familiar to you. A companion of sorts. I don’t want you to write a description of what your familiar is, though. I want you to write a short story that delves deep into the relationship you share with said animal. Try to stay away from cats and dogs and typical pets. I want to know what your animal is based on what you think works best for you. It should be a protector, a friend, and a conscience, and your story should show that. You have 1,000 words for this one, but you can take more if you feel the need. Have fun with it.

You have until noon (PST) on Friday, May 20th

Write the story and post it on your blog, website, whatever you use to share your writing online and comment with a link to it here on this post so that everyone can find it. This is also open to anyone who wants to create a poem rather than a story. So if you’re more a poet than a storyteller, feel free to join in as well.

Go write an awesome story and get back here with your link!
